A few notes about building this lighthouse:
You can build the lighthouse out of any type of available
wood; plywood, treated lumber, or regular un-treated planks.
If you’re going to place it outside, be sure to either make it
out of treated lumber or use a good quality paint to protect it
from the elements. Be aware that paint does not stick to
treated lumber all that well so a deck stain is sometimes a
better option, or a primer specifically designed for treated
wood.
Make sure your boards are straight. When you join the
corners, you’ll want them to come together without gaps.
Small gaps can be filled with wood filler before painting, but
straight boards will eliminate any problems later.
Lastly, you can paint this lighthouse any color scheme you’d
like. The plans show you how to lay out the stripes exactly as
shown, but this is your lighthouse and there are endless
possibilities. I’d love to see a photo of your masterpiece
when you’re done!
